Genova pays homage to the artist who chose Liguria as his favorite place to live and work with a huge retrospective of Otto Hofmann - painter, ceramist and engraver. Trained at the Bauhaus school under the influence of Klee and Kandinsky, Hofmann came in contact with many representatives of the great European avant-garde movement that led to the birth of his personal abstract art of geometric shapes and natural references. The exhibition provides a comprehensive coverage of the work of the artist from the '20s to the '90s.

The exhibition features figurative works dating back to a crucial period for the history of Rome, from the first century BC until the fifth century AD. Six centuries that bore witness to the birth and growth of the Roman Empire, through Julius Caesar in 49 BC, to the consolidation of the last structures of power. Divided in five sections, the exhibition features one hundred works of great elegance and refinement and aims to reconstruct the complexity of an art school that informed and inspired modern genres of painting from Raphael on.

The Fattoria Celle Estate, which already boasts a superb collection of environmental art, has added two new permanent installations by Anselm Kiefer and Marco Tirelli, respectively “Cette obscure clarté qui tombe des étoiles” and “ExCelle”. Two artists who differ in temperament as well and in training and personal research but well represent the trends in contemporary, en-plein-air art. Through November, Scolacium, one of the most important archeological sites of Southern Italy, hosts the Land Art of Dennis Oppenheim. The American artist's "SplashBuilding" installations make up "Intersezioni" that for the first time takes place in 2 locations including the Museo MARCA in Catanzaro. After a careful inspection of the archeological park, Oppenheim created 20 large, visionary works that develop a new perception of the physical and psychological space, in an environment that spans between science and science fiction.

A rich program of important cultural events is scheduled to celebrate the 2000th anniversary of Emperor Vespasian's birth - an important date for Rome and its history. The exhibition recounts the deeds of the Flaviandynasty with Vespasian, first-born Tito and the younger Domitian, starting from the Colosseum and on to the archeological areas of the Roman Forum and the Palatine Hill. The exhibit highlights Vespasian's abilities as a military strategist, a politician and innovative thinker that helped the city in the process of radically changing its architectonical face.

On display a mural attributed to Nicolo' dell'Abate discovered during the restoration of the Rocca del Boiardo. This exceptional finding depicts a warrior with helmet and shield. The image of the warrior is documented byGiambattista Venturi in his 1822 work "Storia di Scandiano" (History of Scandiano). At that time, the Rocca, although in ruins, still preserved parts of the artist's decorations. The artworks in the Rocca will be showcased in the noble halls of the building

The archaeological path of "Otium Ludens" recreates the art of living in the Roman villas of ancient Stabiae, a small town impacted by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. There are two hundred artifacts on display amid frescoes, stucco and objects, many of which are being presented for the first time to the public. The exhibition in Ravenna is the only Italian date of an exceptional international tour that includes stops in Hong Kong and St. Petersburg.

The Hill of the Etruscan necropolis of Tarquinia Monterozzi a declared World Heritage by UNESCO, is enriched by extraordinary paintings recently restored. In its 4th edition, the festival offers a rich program of films, retrospectives, meetings, special events with the participation of major Italian and international stars. The entire city of Rome becomes the stage for this event, in which fourteen films compete, centered around the Parco della Musica Auditorium and the adjacent Village. The Festival features a section on climate change entitled "Eye on the World". The entire Festival adheres to strict environmental regulations and is committed to the creation of new forests in Costa Rica and the reforestation and rehabilitation of an area of the Aniene Valley Reserve in Rome.

This is a unique initiative to celebrate the Fifth edition of Contemporary Art Day. The Museums of Contemporary Art members of AMACI – as well as 800 additional spaces - open their collections for free public viewing. Grotte dell'Angelo in the Cilento National Park are a natural and most charming stage for Dante's Inferno, repeated through 2011. The University of Venice, located in the historic palazzo Ca 'Foscari, opens to the public for the first time. The magnificent building in Venetian Gothic style, which overlooks the Grand Canal, revealing its gardens, the beautiful Aula Magna, the frescoes of Sironi and De Luigi, its windows up on the latest discoveries unearthed during a recent restoration. Guided tours in Italian and English will allow a new path between art and history of a city jewel that continues to give surprises.

This new exhibition space in Turin has been dedicated to Oriental art. It is held in Palazzo Mazzonis in the heart of the "Roman city" that has been made available by the city council. The MAO will contain a collection of 1500 works and will be a part of the Fondazione Torino Musei together with the Galleria d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea, the Museo d'Arte Antica and the Borgo Medievale.

Inaugurated in December 19 in Sassari, the new exhibition space MUS'A, presenting paintings by theme, arranged them in chronological order and capable of documenting the production of Italian and European painters from the Middle Ages until the mid-twentieth century. Completed the restoration of the seventeenth century, built by Archbishop Antonio Canopoli Oristano, the Art Gallery will host at the opening of two exhibitions: the first devoted to the History of Canopoleno, the other at the painting of the eighteenth and Seicentro collection Sanna. 2009 will be a year full of exhibitions, from the one with photos of a house Garibali Caprera, saved at the prestigious St. George of Bonnannaro, the painting of the early twentieth sarda but also concerts and guided tours.
