 Titian at Roma’s Scuderie

An exibition of the Venetian painter’s genius in Rome

Rome ; Until June 16th , 2013

www.scuderiequirinale.it

The Scuderie del Quirinale pays homage to Titian, one of the grand storytellers of the European 16th Century, with an exhibit that reviews the entire arc of the artist’s work,  in Rome trough June 16th. The Pastoral Concert, La Bella in Palazzo Pitti, Flora in the Uffizi, the Gozzi Altarpiece in Ancona, the Danae preserved in Naples’s Museo di Capodimonte, the Portrait of Charles V with His Dog, Titian’s Self-Portrait located inside the Prado in Madrid, and the Punishment of Marsyas in the National Museum in Kromeriz (Czech Republic) are just some of the most famous works on display at  the Scuderie.
They  highlight the lines and strokes of the artist’s unstoppable ascent:  from his Venetian debut in the ateliers of Giovanni Bellini and Giorgione, to the eventual autonomy he gained trough his enormous canvases for the Doges, the d‘Estes and Della Roveres, up unto the Imperial commissions by Charles V and his son, Philip II.
The curator of the event paid particular attention  to the narration of both the painter's religious dimensions and his complex noble portrait work conceived to celebrate the fundamental role of Venetian paintings in the rebirth of Italian and European culture.
