Travel + Leisure readers have awarded Florence their favorite city, overall, for the third consecutive year!


Rome was not far behind in the fourth spot in the list of top 10 cities in the world, which proves just how loved Italy is not only by T+L readers, but travelers all over the world.  The cities of Florence and Rome were also awarded the top two spots of reader's favorites destinations in Europe, with Venice and Siena not too far behind as readers' sixth and seventh choices.  Italy's magnificent islands were not overlooked either - the Aeolian Islands and Sicily were awarded the 4th and 5th spot of the top islands in Europe.    For more on the Travel + Leisure 2007 "World's Best Awards">>>


CORTONA, August 4th - 16th, 2007


The Tuscan Sun Festival in Cortona has been named one of the "Ten Best Summer Arts Festivals in Europe"!  It is truly no wonder being it is one of Europe's most prestigious and all around culturally rich events.  The festival is filled with all types of entertainment for every type of visitor, such as: classical music, art exhibitions, lectures, poetry readings, food and wine tastings, and much more.  All of the activities will be taking place at various venues throughout Cortona.  The 2007 edition will begin with an open-air symphony concert that will be presented by the world renown Sophia Loren.  Countless other performance and exhibitions will follow as well, kicking off what it sure to be a successful and exciting year for the festival.

Lake Caldonazzo – Trentino Alto Adige

Lake Caldonazzo is the biggest lake in the Trentino Alto Adige and every year in August, the Valsugana boroughs surrounding it face off in a dragon boat race known as the Palio dei Draghi.

As a token of appreciation for Italy’s participation in the Hong Kong Festival, in 1985 Hong Kong donated an original dragon boat to Roman and Venetian rowers. This was the beginning of dragon boat competition in Italy where many replicas have since been built as the interest and participation have grown steadily over the years.

 In the best tradition of Italian summer festivals, July Sounds Good at the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome is a series of outdoor concerts held in the Cavea of the Auditorium. The line-up for 2007 included Patti Smith, Lou Reed, Pink, Mario Biondi and the Duke Orchestra among many others.
