GUIDO CREPAX – VALENTINA,
THE SHAPE OF TIME
Top
Triennale
Bovisa – Milan
September 21,
2008-February 1, 2009
www.triennalebovisa.it
The Triennale
Bovisa in Milano hosts the exhibit of Guido Crepax and Valentina, his
most famous character created in 1965. Many of her characteristics, from
her face to her personality at times bratty and trasgressive, are
inspired by Louise Brooks, the silent movie diva protagonist of "Lulù"
by Georg Wilhelm Pabst. Valentina represents the spirit of her time, the
cultural and political world of Italian society undergoing the radical
change of the years from the ‘60s to the ‘80s. Reading the works of
Crepax five years after his death is to discover an innovative twist in
her world. The stories of Valentina contain references to a bourgeois
family and home, strictly divided in large rooms, with its different way
to spend time and live life in it. The multimedia installment of the
exhibition divided in rooms or sections by projections on the walls
allows the visitors to physically access Valentina’s fantasy world.

2008 to January 6th 2009
www.palazzoesposizioni.it
An exhibition which tells the story of the Etruscan civilization
in Lazio and describes its extraordinary level of achievement
through the development of its main urban centers.
Veii, Cerveteri, Vulci and Tarquinia were four cities

stemming from common roots, only later going on gradually to
differentiate from one another both in terms of their artistic
output and in more general terms of culture and worship, of life
style and of trading practices. The second part of the
exhibition is devoted to the ties between these ancient cities
and Rome
itself, highlighting the huge influence that the Etruscan
civilization had on the Roman world, on its religious practices
and on its symbols of power, pointing to continuity but also to
the differences between the two cultures.

Cameos

Mantova - October 12th, 2008 - January 11th, 2009

The Gonzaga built up an exceptional cabinet des merveilles at the
Ducal palace of Mantua. For two centuries they were refined
collectors of antiquities and modern art. Cameos and carvings,
valuable goldsmithery, objects made of semi-precious stone and
glass, and exotic curiosities played a part in confirming their
power and intellectual standing. Like other Italian noble families,
the Medici in Florence, the Este in Ferrara and the Sforza in Milan,
the lords of Mantua began during the second half of the 15th century
to develop a particular fondness for engraved precious stones.

2009
The beautiful
rooms of
Palazzo Reale
in Milan will house the works of one of
the most important and original figures
of
Surrealism,
René Magritte. As preannounce
in the
title of the event, “The mystery of
Nature”, about a hundred works will
highlight the artist’s relationship with
nature, seen not as a petty manifest
phenomenon, but as a fleeting mystery to
investigate. The exhibition aims at
commending the creative genius of one of
the rare nineteenth century artists who
dealt with the theme of nature, placing
it at the centre of his research,
relating it with the limits and the
undertones of contemporary reality. The
Belgian painter’s approach to the theme
of Nature will be investigated according
to a chronological order, marked by his
different creative steps and by the
maturation of his expressive language,
starting from the first and sometimes
hardly known paintings of the phase of
futuristic research passing on to the
most mysterious and gloomy images from
the period between the two Wars,
arriving at the most known products from
the Fifties onwards.

Italian-born American composer and librettist Giancarlo Menotti,

life: the festival of the two worlds. The name came from the
creator’s intention to gather the European and American scenes.
The city chosen to host the event was Spoleto, located in the
region of Umbria, for its
beauty, its richness of suggestive theatrical venues and its
closeness to Rome. .The
unique atmosphere of free expression of aesthetical,
ideological, religious and political tendencies, together with
the natural and architectural beauty of Spoleto, attracted
throughout the years the biggest names of the entertainment and
the jet-set: Visconti, De Filippo, Valli, Russell, Zeffirelli,
Rossellini, Williams, Rota, Polansky, Scorzese, Pound, Gassman,
Pavarotti, Domingo, Garcia and many others.
