Ancient garden
from Babylonia to Rome |
|

Florence, Boboli Gardens, Limonaia -
Until October 28, 2007
http://brunelleschi.imss.fi.it
The spectacular setting of the Lemon
grove of the Boboli Gardens hosts over one hundred and fifty finds from
the digs in Pompeii and Herculaneum,
from the Capitolini Museums, the National Archaeological Museum in
Naples, the Uffizi, the Vatican Museums and other prestigious
Italian and foreign institutions. The
exhibition includes a series of classical examples of garden art:
from the roof gardens of Babylonia, one of the seven wonders of the
ancient world, to the fantastic gardens of Greek Myths, the sacred
garden bordering places of worship, green areas which during
Hellenistic times became an integral part of study and research
institutions. Water
throughout all the sections of the exhibition, is a theme as well.
Archaeological finds
and working models will enable visitors to observe the different
water ways achieved on the basis of the technologies available
during each of the Mesopotamian, Hellenistic and Roman eras. The exhibition ends on
the large lawns in front of the Lemon grove in Boboli Gardens with
the charming reconstruction of two Pompeii gardens of the House of
Painters at Work and the House of the Vettii. |

Trento - Castello dl Buonconsiglio -
Until November 4th, 2007
www.oridellesteppe.it
From the
first millennium B.C. to the Middle Ages, a succession of nomadic
peoples dominated the boundless horizons of the steppe extending
from Asia to
Eastern Europe. This exhibition renders a vivid image of this era,
through the valuable testimonies that came to the light in the vast
lands of the Ukraine. The central theme of the exhibition held in Buonconsiglio Castle in Trento revolves around the glittering
splendor of jewels, the power of weapons adorned with gold and gems,
and the sumptuousness of ceremonial banqueting earthenware, signs of
the prestige and power of the knights of the steppe. Blazing ornaments for garments and headgear, earrings,
pendants, bracelets, breastplates and even gold swords demonstrate
the splendor of the aristocratic life of these knight princes of
the steppe. The exhibition is introduced by an important selection of
testimonies relating to the first sedentary and farming peoples who
preceded the nomadic cultures.
